I posted this two years ago and thought this would be a good day to re-post it. May God bless you all this holy day and for the holy season of Lent.
Jonah began to go into the city, going a day’s walk. And he cried out, “Forty days more, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!” And the people of Nineveh believed God; they proclaimed a fast, and everyone, great and small, put on sackcloth. When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil ways, God changed his mind about the calamity that he had said he would bring upon them, and he did not do it. (Jonah 3:4-5, 10)
Scripture does not give a detailed account of the wicked deeds that called down God’s wrath upon the Ninevites. It is hard to imagine a more wicked age than the one we live in, although perhaps all generations have felt the same way. One thing is certain, God cannot be pleased by what he sees.
